In September 2022 the Dutch director of the MetamorphoSEA event, Sjoerd Wagenaar, had his first research trip to Eleusis. He visited the site of the Eleusianian Mysteries and learnt about the ancient history of the city of Eleusis. He also visited the Vlycha site where the show will take place and was profoundly shocked by the pollution of the seas caused by the dumped ships.
