Join 17 other European cities in helping us address some key modern day issues!

Citizens from 17 other European countries have sent in their questions prompted by a contemporary theme explored in the context of their cities. Now it is Zurich’s turn!

We are asking you, as a citizen of Zurich, to share your questions on the theme of Is being a European citizen more important than being a citizen of an individual nation?

Our ULYSSES European Odyssey project involves 18 cities across Europe, each linked to an episode in Joyce’s book and, more crucially, the contemporary theme sitting in each episode. Zürich is where Joyce wrote most of Ulysses whilst in exile during WW1. Just as Stephen in Ulysses found shelter in Bloom’s house, Zürich has been a refuge for many revolutionary artists, scientists and politicians fleeing their countries nationalist conflicts. It is also the final escape and resting place for many great European writers including Thomas Mann, Elias Canetti, Max Frisch, Otto Klemperer as well as James himself and Nora Joyce.

The resulting publication (which will be called Will You Answer? 309 Questions from Europe) will bring together all the questions we have received from each city on their different themes.

Sent in by citizens from all walks of life, the publication will be an extraordinary look into the hearts and minds of European citizens today – and an inspiration for all.

We are asking citizens of Zurich to submit questions responding to the theme Is being a European citizen more important than being a citizen of an individual nation? for possible inclusion in the publication.

What is a European citizen of the future?

What is more important, cooperation or individuality?

Can we not just be citizens of the world?

What question would you ask?
