Artists’ Statement

Danae Christoudi (she/her) My interest lies in performance art, live art, rituals and installations. I’m also interested in making installation artworks (environments) by changing the space and using performance. I love video projections in my performances and changing light. I believe that the arts are a huge experience for all the senses (smell, taste, etc). My performances also have audience interaction because you can understand and you can feel, if your body participates. I’m in an experimental phase of my artwork and through them I’m trying to find out who I am.

Oulu has everything that I’m interested in, even the theme. I really want to express myself, to communicate and to share ideas about the young people in Europe because I belong in that community. Combine local communities with artists. Τhat brings the best results. Also the theme is close to the last performance of my university team. We named us “Fux “Team and we made a big environment / installation in many rooms at the university and in our houses. Cozy places with many pillows, lights (dark pink and green), 4 video projections, elevator and mobile phones, smell and, of course, our bodies performing are some of the key-words of that artwork.

The theme was the “personal adultness”. We didn’t focus of the 18 years old adultness but on the small thoughts and things that show us we have grown up. I consider myself as an artist who is going to live equally in 2 different countries. I’m a European citizen. I love travelling, meeting people and cultures, I love the locals and learning from living as they do. It inspires me. This art residency is a place for education and learning. Meeting artists from other countries motivates me to make the Europe I dream of. Our tools as fellow artists are skills-sharing. We can share our practice and learn how other cultures may be working. This art residency programme for me is a place that will give me motivation, creativity, cooperation, organisational and managerial skills.
