Artist’s Statement

With language being at the centre of my work, the main focus of my practice has been an on-going exploration of the written word, objecthood and autobiographical mapping through the creation or morphing of independent matter. Assuming that life itself is performative, I aim for my body of work to be perceived as documentation of that long running performance piece, with hope that it fuels others to also try these experimental methods of self analysis.

Because of the awareness that (specially in my three-dimensional work) materiality takes space, and space is always something that has to be negotiated, I am often allowed to profit from dialogue and knowledge exchange with my peers. I believe that intergenerationality is a key element in the way we, as society, are currently learning how to morph in and walk on to.

With this residency, I would like to contribute to a progressive environment of experimentation and documentation. I bring, not only my energy, but also the themes that my generation is eager to see integrated in the big-scale stage of life. The visions that ULYSSES: European Odyssey cultivates are blossoming rich with questions that stand right at the heart of what a true democracy should stay close to, and I am thrilled to take part in such an adventure.

Visual Gesture

Each artist on the residency programme was asked to create a simple visual gesture for potential inclusion in the ULYSSES European Odyssey book. An image that reflected their visit to another partner city, a moment which stayed with them, something quite simple, even symbolic.

All images are copyright of the individual artists.
