Bloomsday 2022 International Press Release

To mark the start of the project the consortium issued a press release – sent out internationally in 16 different countries, on Bloomsday (16th June) 2022.

18 cities across Europe are set to bloom from James Joyce’s Ulysses with a €1.78m Creative Europe grant for a two-year ambitious cultural project.

In a statement in the release, the Lead Partner for the project, Stichting Brave New World Producties in the Netherlands, and the Lead Artistic Partner, Arts Over Borders in Ireland, wrote:

“Brave New World Producties is thrilled to be involved in this exciting and truly ground-breaking pan-European project. It is an honour to have been involved in co-creating the vision for the project and seeking the amazing partners we now have. As Lead Partner we are proud to be involved, immensely grateful for the dedication and enthusiasm of our 16 partners and thrilled with the Creative Europe support – and that of all co-funders – in making this possible. And thanks, Joyce, for inspiring us!”

“James Joyce considered the city as the true repository of a civilisation.  We hope that ULYSSES: A European Odyssey’s creative journey over the next two years will zigzag – as did Homer’s Odysseus and Joyce’s Leopold Bloom –  into a wider Europe of shared debate and performances that will shine a light on human complexity, develop new international partnerships, offer cross- border solutions and stimulate new active citizenship between the arts and society”  Arts Over Borders, Ireland.
